"...sleep smart!"
The current Pullman Matrassenfabriek B.V. was founded in 1937, as 'Rotterdamsche Matrassenfabriek Corona'.

In 1948 the company gained licence to use the Pullman name for its mattresses and sleeping systems.

From that moment on the company name was 'Pullman', after the American furniture maker George Mortimer Pullman (1831 - 1897), who became famous for his desire for comfort.

In his days the train was an important, but utmostly uncomfortable means of transport.

George M. Pullman felt this could be different and developed luxury train compartments, that became known as Pullman trains.

They distinguished themselves by, amongst other things, the fine wooden interiors, copper luggage racks, mosaic floors and the serving of the guests by stewards in uniform.

The comfortable sleepcompartments changed long journeys from exhaustive marathon sessions into a veritable joy.

The phenomenon of the Pullman-trains passed into Europe too.

They were deployed, among other things, for the Oriënt Express, where, following a thorough restauration in 1992, they are still in use.

Through the enormous renown of the luxury sleeptrains the Pulmann name became strongly associated with pleasurable sleep.

It was no suprise, therefore, that this name was given to touringcars, a chain of comfortable hotels and even a number of luxury cars, among them those of Mercedes Benz.

Pullman also became the brand name for a broad range of quality mattresses and boxsprings, which distinguish themselves by superb lying comfort, high quality, and longevity.

Pullman Matrassenfabriek BV is based in Zwijndrecht and cooperates intensely with renowned institutes such as TNO.
